Laura's Story

My life is very full. I am a small business owner and wear a lot of hats. I am an elder at my church and very involved in activities there. I have been married for 24 years and have a daughter, who is 16. Several years ago, at the age of 13, my son took his own life. Out of that devastation, I started an organization called “Be a Positive Light.” I do public speaking on teenage suicide prevention and awareness.

After trying for several years to get pregnant and suffering several miscarriages, I started to contemplate the idea of not having anymore children. I felt my age and the miscarriages I suffered may be a sign for me. I prayed about it and felt a peace that it was not in God’s plan for me to have more children.

I talked to my doctor about the Essure procedure and we both felt it was a good option for me. I was considering a tubal ligation, but chose Essure because I felt it was a safer option and didn’t involve incisions. I wanted to be back at work and into my busy routine quickly.

The day of the procedure was a little sad for me. I was sure I wanted the procedure and I knew I didn’t want to have anymore children, but it was still a little sad to realize that my child-bearing years were coming to a close.

I had read that the Essure procedure could be done without anesthesia, but my doctor wanted me to have it. I have a history of becoming nauseated, so they gave me several drugs to lessen the effects of the anesthesia.

I was only at the out-patient center 3-4 hours. I took it easy the rest of that day. I was back at work the next day. I still had mild cramping, but I took Motrin and was fine.

The follow-up appointment (HSG) didn’t even take an hour and I was glad to know everything was complete and I could rely on Essure.

I felt the whole Essure experience has been positive for me. I was happy that I didn’t have to go through surgery, that my recovery was very fast, and that it worked successfully. I would highly recommend the Essure procedure.
