Estee's Story

At this stage of my life, things are very busy and my plate is pretty full. I work full time as an attorney and I am married with 2 children, a 6 year old daughter and 1 year old son.

My husband and I feel very fortunate to have 2 healthy children and my husband and I mutually agreed that this would be our family.

When I first started thinking about my long term birth control, I was pregnant with my son. I started weighing my options. I thought about getting my tubes tied, or a vasectomy for my husband, or just staying on birth control pills. I talked to my doctor about having a tubal ligation after the birth of my son. It was then she told me about the Essure procedure.

She told me to review some of the pamphlets and visit the website. After reviewing the information, I was very interested in the procedure and I talked to her again about the Essure procedure. She told me that she also had had the Essure procedure and she highly recommended it. She has been my doctor for years and I trust her recommendation. That made the decision easy.

After I had the procedure, my husband drove me home and I rested for the remainder of the day. I had slight cramping for a few days, so I took Advil for the pain.

After 3 months, I had my HSG test. The test was a little uncomfortable, but it wasn’t painful. I didn’t think it was no more severe than having a Pap smear or other procedures that are typical in an OB/Gyn’s office. I was able to watch as the test was being done. It confirmed that the Essure procedure had been successful and that I would no longer be having any children. Given that I had already made up my mind about not having anymore children, I found the test reassuring. It was quick and I was in and out in less than an hour and I had no side effects from the test.

I love the Essure procedure because it was simple, fast, and permanent, which I wanted. What I especially loved was no down time. As busy as I am, a working mother of two children and running a household, I don’t have time for down time. I don’t have time to be sick; my family depends on me.

Another factor in my deciding on Essure was that there would be no incision and that was important to me. I was very fortunate because I had two regular deliveries – no C-sections, so no scars. It gave me hope that one day I could wear a bikini again!
