Jenny's Story

My name is Jenny and I am a wife and stay-at-home mom of three great kids. I had my Essure procedure done in the Spring of 2009. This is my story.
My husband and I were married in 2001. A short 4 months after our wedding day we found out that I was pregnant! We had always planned on starting a family, but a honeymoon baby was a complete surprise. I was on the pill at the time and needless to say…it failed! But when our daughter Sophia was born via c-section early the next year, we couldn’t be happier.
After Sophia was born, I went back on the pill. After six months, we decided it was time to start expanding our family, so I went off birth control. To my surprise (considering our previous experience!) it took me about 8 months to conceive. My OB told me that sometimes it takes your body a little while to adjust and just to be patient. Our son Aden was born in 2004.
My husband and I were unsure about whether we wanted a bigger family. We thought it would be quite a jump going from a family of 4 to a family of 5. But at the same time, if we did want to have another baby, I didn’t want to have the same issues with the pill as we did in the past. So I decided to stay off of birth control and just “be careful.” When Aden was 9 months old we found out I was pregnant with #3, and in 2005 our son Gus was born. So in three and a half years we had three children, with only one we really planned.
After Gus was born we knew that our family was complete and we were officially done having children. I didn’t want to have surgery for a tubal ligation and I didn’t want my husband to have a painful procedure either. I didn’t know we had any other options, so I went back to temporary birth control with the Nuvaring.
At my annual appointment my doctor asked if I was happy with my birth control and I said no. We discussed all of my options, including the Essure procedure. When I got home that night, my husband and I talked it over and decided that this was the right decision for us and our family. It could be done in office and under a local anesthesia.
So I had my procedure done in my OB’s office and was in and out in no time at all. I felt great afterward. On the way home my husband and I picked up the kids and took them out for dinner and ice cream. I had some mild cramping the next day (similar to a menstrual period) but was back to my normal activities within the day. After three months I had my confirmation test and it showed my tubes are blocked and I was ready to go off of temporary birth control – forever! No more worries about whether my birth control is working.
So that’s my story. If you have questions about the procedure or my experience send me an e-mail.
